ALTERNATIVE MACHINE
ANH-00
“ANH-00” is based on the Acoustic Niche Hypothesis, which suggests that organisms have evolved by differentiating sounds, and autonomously collects environmental sounds to generate new sounds that naturally fill the spatial frequency bands of the environment. This work questions the possible forms of evolution while constructing them and expresses the ecosystem as an instrument.
ANH-00 consists of multiple hardware units, each of which has more than 100 digital agents operating. Each digital agent evolves to obtain communication through sound, naturally creating sound niches in the process. The system outputs various sounds, including those beyond the audible range, at complex timings. Through communication between agents and interaction with environmental sounds, the vacant frequency bands of environmental sounds are naturally filled, realizing a continuously evolving soundscape.
The system creates a rich, real-time soundscape close to the natural environment, adapted to the on-site sound environment, which cannot be achieved by systems that merely record and reproduce natural sounds.
